-
- Welcome!
- --------
-
- Hello, thank you for the time obtaining The Call Reporter.
- You must be one of the many Colossus Sysops who has often
- wondered "just how busy is my board" well, The Call Reporter
- will tell you just that! Everything you every wanted to
- know is displayed, maybe even more than you really want to
- know!
-
- Being a Sysop myself, and fascinated with tele-
- communications, I felt the best way to improve my board was
- to know what my callers did (or didn't use) on the system.
- The Callers LOG is fine for a quick run down, but what
- happened over a longer period of time would be better. That
- is basically why The Call Reporter was Written.
-
- Lets Get the Legal Stuff out of the way!
- ----------------------------------------
-
- The Call Reporter is distributed under the Userware
- Marketing method. It is provided AS IS! That means, use it
- at YOUR OWN RISK! Please don't try to hold Mustang Software
- liable for system damage, loss of profit, or any other
- commercial damage, including but not limited to special,
- incidental, consequential or any other types of damages.
-
- Copyright
- ---------
-
- The Call Reporter is Copyrighted by Mustang Software. It is
- provided for your personal use. You may:
-
- 1). Make as many copies as you wish.
- 2). Give it to all your friends. (Hint)
- 3). Post it on your Bulletin Board. (Hint, Hint)
-
- But please DO NOT:
-
- 1). Distribute the Program without this
- documentation.
- 2). Charge anyone for the program.
- 3). Or change the program in any way (Hear that
- NORTON Fans!)
-
- $$$$$$$$$$
- ----------
-
- Oh God, most of you will not even read this part! Ok, I
- know, you know this program wasn't written overnight. And,
- I know, you know, that if it wasn't for this shareware /
- userware scheme, there would be A LOT LESS public domain
- programs available!
-
- So as you can see Mustang Software believes in distributing
- all of its products in the public domain. We feel, after
- you've had a change to use our programs a couple of times,
- well, uh, you'll want to show us your support by Registering
- your copy.
-
- What will you get, you ask? Good Question! In return, for
- registering your copy of The Call Reporter, I'll send you
- either the current version (if your using an older
- production) or a copy of the next release. See, this way,
- Mustang Software can continue to improve their products and
- still buy shoes for our kids!
-
- Registration is simply. Send us your name, address, and
- Product (with version number) information along with $20.00
- Check, Money Order, Cash, (please no rolls of pennies) to:
-
- Mustang Software

-
- Plus, after you receive your diskette, we'll notify you of
- all future updates, revisions, and NEW PRODUCTS! Yep, that's
- right, boy I know, WHAT A DEAL!
-
-
-
- Lets Get on to Business
- -----------------------
-
- The Call Reporter swiftly reads through your Colossus
- CALLERS.LOG. During this time, this little jewel is looking
- for Key words or phrases like "off at" and "1200 baud".
- Like any good analyzer, it operates on "Good info in, Good
- results out". That means if your CALLERS.LOG is in good
- shape, then you can expect good results.
-
- However, it can also operate on "TRASH in TRASH out". I
- personally hate this one, if your CALLERS.LOG contains a lot
- of recorded line noise like, $#*^%&@%*#%)#$%(#_*)%(#$, well
- don't expect much! I tried to trap for as much garbage as I
- could and deal with it the best way I know how, however the
- options are endless of what your log could contain. If the
- Call Reporter gives you fits, then I suggest looking over
- your CALLERS.LOG. Keep in mind, I use a 600K CALLERS.LOG
- with over 1800 calls when testing The Call Reporter before I
- send it out!
-
- Also, keep in mind, I have tested this version with COLOSSUS
- version 1.20Q. As new Colossus versions are released, I may
- have to change the way I count the apples! So bare with me
- during those periods!
-
- What exactly will I learn from The Call Reporter!
- -------------------------------------------------
-
- Ok, well lets take a look at the Statistical information
- that is reported.

-
-
- Most, if not all, of this information will be familiar to
- you. However, you may want to know how I get some of these
- results.
-
- The Call Reporter pulls the Beginning, Ending, date and time
- from the CALLERS.LOG. I DO NOT depend on the creation line
- in your CALLERS.LOG, we simply start your clock on the first
- entry whether it be local use or not. The System usage
- does take into account all time spent on the system locally,
- we felt if you were doing Sysop maintenance then that time
- should be accounted for.
-
- This differs with Total Number of Calls, this does not
- include local sign-ons. However, local sign-ons are
- reported in another area.
-
- The System Efficiency Usage is the percentage your system
- was used for Colossus during the dates reported. The number
- comes from the total system usage (in minutes) divided by
- number of minutes between the begin/end date and time.
-
-
- Number of times the editorial was read, represents the
- number of times the file EDTORIAL.BBS was read. What ever
- you call the option on the main menu, some use it for other
- usages.
-
- Everything else I believe makes sense. If I get any
- questions, I'll append this documentation to cover my
- response. Most of us never really look the documentation
- over that well anyway!
-
-
- Anything Else?
- --------------
-
- YES! We also breakdown which bulletins were read the most,
- so you can tell when a bulletin doesn't get much action!
-
- We breakdown the messages similar to the bulletins however
- we also show you the average line per message!
-
- You also get a complete breakdown of the files downloaded,
- which ones and how often!
-
- User Download and Upload recaps are printed showing which
- callers uploaded or downloaded the most files. This gives
- you a quick idea who is doing what, as they say!
-
- Lastly, we'll show you what files were uploaded for your
- eyes only, just incase one got by you!
-
- Well, did we forget anything? If so tell us about it! If
- we like the idea you'll probably see it added!
-
-
-
-
- Available Options
- -----------------
-
- The Call Reporter by default will compile and print to a
- file a complete report. All you have to do is type
- "CALLRPT" at your DOS prompt and make sure the CALLERS.LOG
- is in the same directory.
-
-
-
- I have received some requests from Sysop (see I do listen to
- your comments) to set up the Call Reporter so you can have
- it not print some information. Most of you dump the results
- to a Colossus Bulletin, therefore displaying the Special
- Sysop upload files maybe inappropriate.
-
- Others like to have two or three Bulletins containing
- different information such as The Most Popular Downloads.
-
- Therefore, I have designed switches so you may suppress some
- information. Therefore you can customize your results.
- Also, by making them Command Line switches, you can still
- have The Call Reporter run in Schedule X, completely
- unattended. What a neat way to update a bulletin every
- night after midnight!
-
- The Command Line switches available are:
-
- /P ........... Redirects the output of the report to the
- line printer.
-
- /O=xxxxxxxx.xxx Where "xxxxxxxx.xxx" equals the
- FILENAME.EXT for the results to be
- sent. The default is "ANALYZER.BBS" .
-
- /G ........... Suppresses the first two Statistical
- Information screens.
-
- /B ........... Suppresses the Bulletin Recap.
-
- /M ........... Suppresses the Message Recap.
-
- /D ........... Suppressed the Download Recap.
-
- /A ........... Suppressed the USER Download Recap.
-
- /C ........... Suppresses the USER Upload Recap.
-
- /S ........... Suppresses the Sysop Special File
- Upload information.
-
-
-
- /L=x ........ Where "x" is an integer. You select
- top number of names and files to print
- in your report. For example, lets say
- you had 100 different files downloaded
- in two months, if x was equal to 25
- then only the TOP 25 names would be
- printed. This effects the Download
- File, User Download and User Upload
- recaps. The default is set to 10.
-
- /H or /? .... Displays a help screen showing the
- available switches.
-
-
- Let me know if you would like to see something added!
-
-
- Where is the Call Reporter Going?
- ---------------------------------
-
- Questions, questions, questions! Well on the drawing board
- are the following ideas:
-
- Version 3.0
- ===========
-
- Store all the answers in an external file and have the Call
- reporter append to this file, therefore allowing you to
- delete your CALLERS.LOG to save disk room. Plus, this will
- keep the processing time down because the CALLERS.LOG files
- will be smaller. Wouldn't it be neat to see what your
- totals are after 3, 6, or 12 months!
-
- Version 4.0
- ===========
-
- Add ANSI graphics when displaying the results. Pie and Bar
- graphs will be available to display your usage. You'll be
- able to display graphically the information most important
- to you.
-
-
- Version 5.0
- ===========
-
- Add the ability to show comparisons between dates. For
- example, how did the board do in January '86 versus June
- '86. And of course any other ideas our users have!
-
-
- So don't you think this is a product worth supporting? Your
- support will show us whether or not this type of product is
- important to you!
-
-
- Register Now, while your thinking about it!
-
-
- Happy Analyzing!
